Steak Sandwich with Caramalised Onions & Mustard Cream
A great easy meal that’s sure to please.
Steak Sandwich with Caramalised Onions & Mustard Cream
Ingredients
For the Steak Sandwich
- 4 Minute Steaks (very thin steaks that only take 1 minute a side to cook)
- 8 slices Grainy Sourdough Bread
- 2 cups Cos Lettuce leaves
- 2 Tomatoes, medium in size (sliced)
- 1/2 cup Beetroot Slices (the serrated ones are best as they don’t slip off the sandwich)
For the Caramalised Onions
- 2 Brown Onions (sliced into rings)
- 2 tsp Brown Sugar
- 1 tbsp Balsamic Vinegar
For the Mustard Cream
- 1/4 cup Extra Light Sour Cream
- 1 tbsp Dijon Mustard
Instructions
- Spray a non-stick frying pan with olive oil. Add the onion & cook for 10-15 minutes over a low heat until very soft. Add 1 tablespoon of water from time to time, if needed, to prevent sticking. Stir in the brown sugar & vinegar. Remove from the heat, set aside & keep warm.
- Combine the sour cream & the Dijon mustard in a small bowl. Set mustard cream aside.
- Spray the steaks with olive oil spray & season with cracked pepper. Cook the steaks for 1 minute each side or until browned & just cooked. Remove from the heat & rest for 2 minutes.
- Meanwhile toast the bread & place 4 pieces on plates. Top with the lettuce, tomato, beetroot, caramalised onions & steak.
- Spoon over the mustard cream & top with the remaining toast. Enjoy.
Notes
This recipe has become a family favourite of ours.
The tricky part is getting organised so that the steak, toast & caramalised onions are all hot at the same time. Good luck!
